It felt like most of Abington descended on Rushmere road on Saturday to watch possibly the closest of sporting rivals battle it out for an Alliance Cup Final spot.

Scouts hosted Old Northamptonians who have had a solid season and were keen on avenging the semi final defeat in the same competition last year.
As expected, the game did not disappoint and both teams knocked lumps out of each other for 40 minutes with a solitary Will Brenan penalty the only score by half time. Almost unheard of at this level of rugby.

The game opened up in the second half and worryingly, the visitors took advantage of the wind and notched up 3 penalties and 9 points. Normally, this would not be a worry for the Scouts supporters, but with such little possession and facing a strong wind the game looked lost.

In such tight games, it was difficult to find a difference, but a neutral would say that if Scouts got the ball wide, they would get a chance.

With just 6 minutes to go that chance came. The ball went wide to Noah Jervis with a 30m dash ahead, and he just squeezed in to score the try. 8-9, conversion to come.

Now, its rightly said that one man does not make a team, but on more than one occasion, Will Brenan has stepped up for the Scouts to win a game. With the conversion right on the touchline and a strong wind, it seemed like an impossibility, but..... huge kudos goes to Will Brenan. He struck the ball beautifully, and the crowd went wild. 10-9. What an astonishing kick.

Some gritty work from the Scouts pack (who had been through a war all day) managed to secure the ball at 80 minutes and the whistle went.

The squad now wait until Wednesday 21st May for the final at Franklins Gardens versus either Olney or Daventry.
