The Old Scouts claimed victory in the 2nd place battle to make a strong statement to the league.
Rushmere road was once again treated to a great game of rugby on Saturday, but for the Scouts fans it was a nervous afternoon.
The first half was a mixed performance from both sides. Scouts scored first at 18 minutes through Captain Jordan Dolman, and the march was on. Only for it to be halted straight away by a try from Lutterworth.
For the next 20 minutes the sides wrestled for possession back and forth in the middle of the pitch and a try a piece was traded. The Scouts score coming from try machine Noah Jervis, and the first half ended with Lutterworth ahead 17-10.
The second half needed someone to win the 50/50 moments, and it was the visitors that started to get the edge. They managed a try at 47 minutes and at 24-10 the comeback seemed very difficult. But,....as the head line goes, The Old Scouts stepped up and were belligerent for 25 minutes, scoring 3 unanswered tries.
All three were power plays from the forwards and 1st to step up was Jacob Bond. The re-born props roar could have been heard in the town centre and it set the tone for the fight back. Next up was Iain Simmons, who had to start chasing his tally of 12 tries last year at some point and scored a lovely try.
Finally to cap it off, Martin Wolfenden dug a route through several Lutterworth players from a metre out and got the deciding score.
With 2 conversions from Will Brenan, the game finished at 29-24 to Scouts.
What looked like an impending defeat ended up in a win that the squad will be very proud of.
Man of the Match = Richard Bussey. At his battering best and at the front of the Scouts charge.
