The Old Scouts travelled to Broadstreet on Saturday for an eagerly awaited match up against the Coventry side.
Broadtsreet have had recent fortunes with investment from different angles including from Prem side Wasps (before their demise). But in the last couple of seasons that has peaked and they are struggling to find the form to match the hype. The Scouts have long felt they would be a good test and were revved up for the challenge.
The first half was fractious from both sides and fought mainly within the forward channels, which showed in Scouts conservative score line in the first 20. Just 3 points from Will Brenan.
The game lit up at 25 minutes. Broadstreet got a breakaway try from the athletic second row and then two minutes later received a red card. This pace kicked Scouts in to action and Hone and Garbett both scored to take the half at 15-7.
A half time talk from coach Braband was needed to steer the team in to the right areas, and boy did Scouts listen.
They delivered a fantastic 20 minutes of attack which pushed the score to 29-7 and out of reach for Broadstreet. Then on top of that, they battled out a ferocious ten last minutes with the home side desperate to score. The defence held and the whistle blew.
A great win for Scouts and it sets up a top of the league clash on the 9th against Lutterworth
