Scouts defeat brave Rushden

U11s Vs Rushden & Higham
9/12/12

Following a number of weeks out due to the weather, this represented the U11s first competitive games for some time.

Match 1 – Won 21-0
The game started evenly with neither team able to break down the other’s defence. Scouts came closest to scoring when from a short penalty they were held up over the line. However despite being on top for long periods of the half they couldn’t break through some stout defending to ensure a scoreless first half.
The game swung dramatically in Scouts favour early in the second half with 2 superb individual tries by Ruaridh. Having already run in a try following a good handling move, he caught the ball directly from the re-start and sprinted the whole length of the field to touch down again. He converted both scores to give Scouts a 14-0 lead.
Following a strong run down the centre by Sam, Rhys wriggled over to increase the lead with Ruaridh again conerting. Scouts were now in total control and almost scored again on the final whistle, but Callum was tackled inches short of the line.

Match 2 – Won 28-12
Scouts made a number of changes to the starting team, but it didn’t appear to have any detrimental effect as Sam scored an early try which he converted himself. Lewis increased the lead when he proved too fast for the R&H defence and Sam again converted.
R&H proved that they were not out of the match yet when they barged over from a crash penalty. Scouts almost scored again, but knocked on with the line begging to leave the half time score 14-7.
Despite early pressure from R&H in the second half, it was Scouts who scored next when Callum this time was not to be denied, scoring from a tap penalty. Ruaridh again converted. R&H showed great determination to hit back again, but Scouts put the match out of reach with another Sam score again converted by Ruaridh.

Match 3 – Won 14-0
Scouts made it 3 wins out of 3 and were set on their way when Sam again proved too strong, bursting through a number of tackles to score the first try, Ruaridh again converting. For the rest of the half, Scouts were forced to defend their lines whlist R&H threw everything at them. To their credit they held firm going into half time with a slender 7-0 lead.
Scouts turned the tables in the second half and a period of sustained pressure earned them a series of penalties finally resulting in Lewis scoring. Ruaridh again proved reliable with his kicking adding the extra 2 points.

This was a satisfactory run out for Scouts who recorded a deserved 100% record. Huge thanks to the lads who guested for R&H who were short of players. Without these boys there would have been no fixture today – Well done lads!

A very Happy Christmas to all and see you in the New Year.
